A story appearing on Breitbart News on Saturday https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2026/01/10/take-action-tell-google-to-show-you-more-stories-from-breitbart-news-with-preferred-sources-feature/ urged readers to take action to assure that search engines such as Google end what appears to be purposeful suppression of the news organization’s stories in their news feeds. In Google’s case preferences can now be set to assure Breitbart shows up on a reader’s news feed. But that requires that individuals take a proactive step. No such effort is needed to receive the normal flow of “traditional” left of center news sources that seem to populate both Google and Apple through the algorithms that determine content in their news feeds.
A December InsiderAdvantage/Trafalgar Group joint national survey of 1000 likely voters broke down in real numbers the impact of left of center “traditional” news being treated as some “gold standard.”
The survey conducted last month (December 3-4) examined where voters find their national news. About half of the respondents said they received their news by television, with 63% of those who get their news from TV watching left of center networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) and left of center cable news such as CNN and MS NOW. This poll took place before the new effort at CBS to bring more balance to their news reporting.
The other half of likely voters said they receive their news online, with the largest source being news aggregators such as Google News, Apple, and Yahoo News (49%). Overall, 21% of likely voters said they receive their news from online sites such as Breitbart. That’s impressive but it is achieved with tech driven handcuffs that make it hard for average readers to easily find their content.
The Breitbart story highlights what appears to be suppression of sites such as Breitbart in the feed of news stories on sites such as Google.
The Impact on Public Opinion of Excluding Center Right News Organizations
Our December media survey only focused on news organizations. The impact on public opinion from the exclusion of legitimate center right news sources in online news feeds is measurable and shocking.
In our survey, of those who read their online news from left of center news organizations from their Google, Yahoo or Apple news feeds, only 24% agreed with the statement: “The economy and your personal finances are improving.” But a majority (53%) of respondents who received their online news from more conservative organizations agreed that the economy and their personal finances were improving. Still the final weighted poll, due to the restrictions on access to center right news sources, showed 65% of Americans reporting a negative view of the economy. Reports of a booming GDP, declining unemployment, tamed inflation, and a huge reduction in the trade deficit are lost on a vast number of voters who are blocked from those facts by a deluge of center left stories delivered on broadcast TV or in their digital news feeds.
We can only imagine what public opinion might be were the flow of information even, with exposure to more center conservative news sites brought to an equal level to that of “traditional” left of center sources.
Republicans and the Trump administration must come to understand that between broadcast networks who hold FCC licenses and massive tech search engines and smartphone giants, the information playing field is a biased one and that impacts public opinion in a big way. Unless Republicans get serious about getting their daily accomplishments out to the public in a massive and consistent manner, they will be wiped out in the upcoming midterm elections. They must buy ads that basically inform the public of the truth day by day. Now, not four months before an election. And they must make clear to big tech that their algorithms matter, and need to be changed to end the bias against legitimate center right news and information sources.
We Get the Same Treatment
We at InsiderAdvantage certainly have, in our opinion, been the victim of this same selective treatment. For example, Google search highlighted recently a Snopes article https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/08/23/trump-approval-rating-putin-summit/ about our August ’25 Trump approval rating, stating “An InsiderAdvantage poll clashed with credible polls’ results and failed to provide information on its methodology.” In the article, which claims to be fact checking, the writer for Snopes wrote of our website “the website doesn’t include an About page or any information regarding any funding, origins, or capacity of the organization.”
Of course, anyone who follows polling knows the facts that appear on our “ABOUT US” page which has been on our site for several years. It notes that InsiderAdvantage has polled for newspapers, online new sites, and network affiliates for over two decades. It also notes our ranking as among the most accurate pollsters in recent presidential cycles and in the overall aggregate of numerous election cycles (RealClearPolitics Pollster Scorecard) https://www.realclearpolitics.com/rcp-pollster-scorecard/ Our polls, including the one in question, had full top line tabs posted (many pollsters don’t make those easily available). All our surveys are surveys of likely voters and are weighted (age, race, gender, and political affiliation). Even casual followers of national polling know that. But the author of the story knew so little about our work that was lost in an avalanche of just plain false statements.
The “fact checker” in our opinion, defamed our company and certainly placed our polling in a false light. That article was, we believe, used to have another so-called online “arbiter” of media accuracy, alter their assessment of our objectivity and quality. But who could blame them? The Snopes article clearly implied that we have no physical office (we have for 25 years) and had no track record, despite being one of the oldest and most prolific of public pollsters.
It was all on our About Us section, which Snopes declared didn’t exist! Perhaps an obvious missed “fact” by the “fact checkers”!
The same treatment towards pollsters with conservative backgrounds has existed for years. Many of the most accurate public pollsters in America such as InsiderAdvantage, Trafalgar Group, Rasmussen Reports, Big Data, and others have suffered from what we will call “the Snopes treatment” with derisive stories and “ratings” from groups such as the now defunct ABC-owned 538 polling aggregation and prediction site.
They predicted a Harris win in 2024. And then they disappeared.
