A national survey of registered voters shows President Trump with a five point approval advantage following a testy Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky and his subsequent speech to Congress. The survey of 800 registered voters was conducted March 5 and has a margin of error of 3.46%
The results:
What is your opinion of the job performance of President Donald Trump?
Approve: 50%
Disapprove: 45%
Undecided/No Opinion 5%
Analysis from pollsters Matt Towery (InsiderAdvantage) and Robert Cahaly (Trafalgar Group):
“President Trump is maintaining his approval ratings and may be seeing them starting to strengthen even more. We believe that his ratings might have suffered a bit immediate following the Zelensky meeting, but recovered and started to accelerate following his address to a joint session of Congress. The survey had a slightly higher undecided percentage than we usually see. Based on our experience many of these undecided voters likely fell into the “disapprove” category immediately following the meeting with the Ukrainian leader but shifted to undecided after they had the weekend to learn more about the meeting and then were exposed to Trump’s speech. The speech received strong approval ratings in several other national surveys. It appears that President Trump’s numbers suffered no damage over the Ukraine meeting and his approval numbers are perhaps poised to rise more in the comings days as undecideds in the poll settle out.”
