Georgia’s forestry industry generated over $41 billion in economic impact in 2021 and supported over 55,000 direct jobs, pushing Georgia to the top as the No. 1 ranked forestry state in the nation. Late last week, U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff introduced bipartisan legislation that he says will help strengthen and grow Georgia’s booming forestry industry by modernizing and improving the U.S. Forest Service’s Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program to ensure reliable data is available to inform forest management decision making.
Ossoff teamed with Sen. Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) to introduce the Forest Data Modernization Act of 2023 which would require the Forest Service to prepare an updated strategic plan to expand data collection and further integrate advanced remote sensing technology.
