The Russian Foreign Ministry last week put out a list of 500 Americans who are now banned from entering the country – and it includes some high profile Georgia politicians. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is on the list, despite not having any role in foreign policy. So are freshman U.S. Reps. Rich McCormick and Mike Collins, who have been critical of Russia during its invasion of Ukraine. Also included is former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. All four Georgians seemed proud to have made the cut, with Collins posting sarcastically on Twitter, “Oh no! Mercer hack exposes nearly 100,000
Georgia is the cybersecurity capital of the Southeast – and possibly of the entire U.S. – but it is far from safe from cyber attacks. Mercer University, in Macon, is the target of two federal lawsuits alleging that the school did not do enough to keep personal information safe ahead of a major data breach that led to more than 93,000 people having their personal data leaked online. The hack occurred in February but individuals were notified in May that their personal information, including Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers may have been compromised. One suit says the attack was “highly foreseeable” and that the school didn’t do enough to prevent it, and was too slow to alert individuals who had their information leaked.
