Clarke County Superior Court Judge Eric Norris last week ruled that permissive District Attorney Deborah Gonzalez violated the Georgia crime victims bill of rights when she dismissed charges against a man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl. The case will now be handled by a special prosecutor. As far as Gonzalez, it appears that there’s nothing Norris can do in regard to punishing the DA for this gross miscarriage of justice other than reprimanding her in his court room on a date to be determined. Mercer hack exposes nearly 100,000
Georgia is the cybersecurity capital of the Southeast – and possibly of the entire U.S. – but it is far from safe from cyber attacks. Mercer University, in Macon, is the target of two federal lawsuits alleging that the school did not do enough to keep personal information safe ahead of a major data breach that led to more than 93,000 people having their personal data leaked online. The hack occurred in February but individuals were notified in May that their personal information, including Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers may have been compromised. One suit says the attack was “highly foreseeable” and that the school didn’t do enough to prevent it, and was too slow to alert individuals who had their information leaked.
