The small coastal town of Thunderbolt, just outside Savannah, is making a sustainability push in the form of a glass recycling initiative. Partnering with The Upcycling Company, Thunderbolt residents can drop off glass items at a collection bin across from the Senior Citizens’ Center for free, diverting them away from landfills. City officials hope a reduction in solid waste will result in better sanitation rates, which have gone up in recent years. With more companies making pushes toward sustainability, Upcycling is hoping the time is right for a partnership that benefits both local manufacturers in search of recycled glass as well as the community at large.
