Interstate 16 in Central Georgia’s Treutlen County was shut down last Thursday after a large tractor trailer severely damaged an overpass which crossed over it. The Georgia Dept. of Transportation managed to reopen the road Friday, two days earlier than expected thanks to efficient work from the department and its contractors, who were forced to fully destroy and remove the damaged bridge before the highway could be reopened. Getting the key stretch of highway from Macon to Savannah was a pressing matter because of the freight flow to and from the Port of Savannah.
