The state’s film industry is creating a very tangible benefit for the Statesboro Bulloch County Airport in the form of a $500,000 payday that will go towards the construction of a new hangar for corporate jets. Producers for the Korean War-era film “Devotion” are using one of the airport’s back runways to create a model of the superstructure of the aircraft carrier USS Leyte and film scenes “on deck” involving aircraft. The unexpected windfall allows the airport to move forward with the plans for a new hangar, which county officials say will increase their ability to house and service corporate jets. More corporate jets means more hangar fees and more fuel sales, paying dividends for the South Georgia airport for decades to come.
