One noteworthy news item from this weekend’s GOP conventions – the District 1 convention, encompassing most of Southeast Georgia – was canceled by party officials concerned over the possibility of “disruptions and protests” from a rival faction within the party.  Back in April at the Chatham County GOP convention, a group calling themselves the  “Chatham Patriots” clashed with party leadership over officer elections and parliamentary procedures.  Fearing a second round of conflict, local party leaders went ahead and called off the district convention Friday evening, leaving many delegates stranded in Jesup, where the meeting was set to be held.  Intra-party conflict getting so heated that conventions can’t even be held has the District 1 GOP SINKING…
