Georgia could take another big step soon in the fight against domestic violence. Lawmakers passed HB 231 on the final day of the session last week and sent it to Gov. Brian Kemp for his signature. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Houston Gaines (R-Athens), creates a new type of temporary protective order for victims who experience abuse by a dating partner.
Georgia is currently one of three states that does not offer civil protection for victims of dating violence.
