The city of Forsyth, south of Atlanta in Monroe County, has leveraged smart leadership into booming growth in its historic downtown district, with more than a half-dozen businesses opening over the past year and another 20 developments currently on the way.  Grants for signs and facades have helped propel the development, as has the town’s interstate access and location between Atlanta and Macon.  Many small towns across the state have struggled in recent years, but others, like Forsyth, have worked hard to reinvigorate their historic downtowns and bring businesses back to fill old storefronts, even in a very difficult economic year.
