Earlier this year, State Representative Phillip Singleton (R-Sharpsburg) introduced a bill that he said was designed to protect girls sports. That bill (HB 276) has gained no traction and seems to be held up in the House education committee. Wednesday, the Senate Education and Youth Committee passed another version of the bill by a 5-3 vote. The “Save Girls’ Sports Act,” sponsored by Sen. Marty Harbin (R-Tyrone), would require students to participate in high school sports according to the gender that appears on their birth certificate.
