The Savannah Gateway Industrial Hub officially opened its doors in February, giving the Port of Savannah a world class shipping hub that will combine rail, truck and ship logistics to ship goods across the continent.  The 2,600 park in Effingham County, about 12 miles from the port, features a dual-rail system that dramatically increases the ports ability to fulfill the demands of customers.  Its first tenant, A&R Logistics, is already busy shipping manufacturing materials, helping turn the Port of Savannah into a “key plastics export hub,” according to A&R Logistics President Chris Ball.  The milestone is just one of the port’s major large-scale projects currently underway – some involving the port itself and others, such as the SGIH, improving shipping capacity and efficiency on land.
