The House Government Affairs committee gave approval to a bill Wednesday that would prohibit cities and counties from reducing spending on their police departments by more than 5 percent a year. HB 286, sponsored by Rep. Houston Gaines (R-Athens), made its way through a subcommittee Tuesday morning, before getting the ‘Do Pass’ recommendation from the full committee late Wednesday afternoon. The bill now moves on to the Rules Committee.
