Nearly a month after election day a winner has finally been declared in a Savannah-area state House seat.  Following an (extensive) series of recounts, Derek Mallow defeated Anne Allen Westbrook by 19 votes in the Democratic primary for House District 163, and will run unopposed in November.  The recount was triggered when Mallow won the primary by 20 votes – within the one half of one percent margin needed to allow for a recount.  The recount was the first in the state since the new voting machines were brought in, so many eyes were on the South Georgia district.  Clearly it wasn’t the swiftest process, but the recount – done by hand – found that the original result was off by just one single vote.  That’s some reassuring accuracy heading into November – it has Georgia elections RISING…
