A pair of preservation groups— the Conservation Fund and the Open Space Institute— have joined forces to secure the single largest undeveloped, unprotected site in coastal Georgia. Citing its ecological importance, the groups teamed up to purchase more than 16,000 acres along the Satilla River, with plans to eventually turn the land over to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to be used as a wildlife conservation area.
