Former City of Atlanta Councilwoman and mayoral candidate Mary Norwood is requesting a second look at the recently announced closure of the Atlanta City Detention Center (ACDC).
That legislation, long pushed by Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and passed by the City Council last week, led to rumblings that the move will put further pressure on the already-overcrowded Fulton County jail.
Norwood, in her role as Chair of the Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods, sent a letter to Bottoms, Council Pres. Felicia Moore, and the other members of the City Council, raising caution over the possibility of offenders – some violent, being released back into the city due to over-crowded jails.
“There is no greater responsibility for government – at all levels – than protecting the public” stated Norwood.
