On Wednesday, City of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, joined by other officials – including Department of Watershed Management Commissioner Kishia L. Powell, announced that the tunnel intended to join the future Bellwood Quarry reservoir, the Chattahoochee River and the Hemphill Water Treatment Plants has been completed. The $11.6 million, 400-foot long drilling machine named Driller Mike – after Atlanta rapper and business owner Killer Mike – took approximately two years to dig out the five-mile long, ten feet in diameter tunnel.
