Why would the campaign of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms pay a consulting firm registered with the state by a Fulton County elections department official who helped oversee the 2017 runoff where she was the winning candidate? The Bottoms campaign incredibly (some might even say “stupidly”) paid over $3,600 to R.J. Mays Consulting whose registered agent is Ralph Jones Sr.. He’s the county’s election registration chief! This is a blatant conflict of interest and an alarming lack of separation between an election official and a political campaign that his department is overseeing. (Among other things, his department handles voter purges and absentee ballot mailing.) Atlanta city hall was already mired in a bribery/contracting scandal when Bottoms assumed office.
