Much of the talk around this year’s legislative session involved the state’s involvement in the possible expansion of rail – passenger rail. Little noticed or often-overlooked is the commercial cousin of passenger rail, freight. With the Port of Savannah hosting more container ships every year, the amount of freight moving across Georgia is also increasing every year. The legislature’s passage of HB 735 will help to ensure all that freight rail continues humming along smoothly and cost effectively.
