Consider these two news stories: 1) Bipartisan speakers call for political civility at the annual Zell Miller Legacy Dinner and 2) Leftist hopes Georgia GOP lawmaker dies and Democrat lawmaker refuses to condemn it.

On Monday night in Atlanta a bipartisan audience assembled for a dinner honoring former Democrat Gov. Zell Miller’s 86th birthday sponsored by the Miller Institute Foundation. The recipient of its award for “distinguished public service” went to a Republican: state House Speaker David Ralston. The humbled speaker remarked that while “he never voted for Miller” for any public office that he sought, he respected the former governor for his ideas, public service and integrity.
