The 2018 race to decide Georgia’s next Lieutenant Governor is still more than a year away. But Senate Pro Tem David Shafer has already picked up a number of major endorsements in his bid to replace current Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle — who is running for Governor.
Shafer has received the support of former Presidential candidate and Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz who praised him as an “unapologetic conservative.” Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, the only member of the politically prominent Bush family to currently hold public office, endorsed Shafer as a “true conservative who has gotten results.” Philanthropist and Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus expressed support for Shafer saying he understands “job creation.”
His other backers include Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr, former U.S. Rep. John Linder and all five members of the Georgia Public Service Commission.
