American Legion Post 29 in Marietta has bestowed $60,000 to three veterans charities from monies raised from its Veterans Memorial 5 K and Military Appreciation Celebration held on May 28. The charities awarded $20,000 each are: 1) The Commanders Fund of the American Legion that supports Georgia’s Veterans Administration hospitals and nursing homes; 2) The Georgia National Guard Foundation based at Dobbins Air Force Base which supports active duty, reservists and retired veterans in financial need and/or those needing support with emotional and family needs; 3) The Shepherds Men, a group that assists veterans having problems with PDST and other emotional traumas.
