The “city in a forest” held a mayoral candidate forum on Thursday night. Sponsored by Cox Enterprises, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Cox Conserves, the forum was focused on greenspace. One of the challenges for the candidates, and Atlanta overall, is keeping that city in a forest character amid rapid development.

Just recently, the Atlanta City Council passed an ordinance to give a developer in Buckhead permission to cut down trees in Peachtree Hills Park to route a storm water drainpipe. Park Pride, a nonprofit dedicated to greenspace advocacy in Atlanta, and just about any group with the word “conservancy” in its name was there to listen to the candidates.
