A Facebook event post entitled “Desecrating Confederate Cemeteries on Confederate Memorial Day” still has not been taken down despite repeated requests. The posting by a left-wing political group specifically lists the Marietta Confederate Cemetery on Old Powder Springs Street in Marietta as a target, and features a cartoon character urinating on a grave.
The social media platform responds to the complaints by saying that such advocacy of a crime doesn’t amount to “a violation of Facebook policy.” Meanwhile, Marietta police patrolling the cemetery — which contains 3,000 graves and often displays the Confederate battle flag and an array of Southern secessionist flags— report no instances of trouble in recent days.
